The website
Gallery
The gallery is a feed of reading videos that the people who made them chose to publish — one film at a time, scrolled vertically. It needs no account to watch.
Nothing you make is ever published automatically. Every post in the gallery is there because somebody deliberately put it there, and can take it out again.
Publishing a reading
- Generate a reading video at the bottom of a finished reading.
- Press Share this to the gallery under the finished video.
- Write a caption if you want one, and press Publish.
- Share this to the gallery
Appears under a finished reading video. Opens the caption box; nothing is published until you press Publish.
- Caption
A line about the reading, shown under the video in the feed.
LimitsOptional, up to 300 characters - Publish
Puts the video in the public feed straight away.
CostFree - Take it down
Removes the post from the gallery. Replaces the publish control once a video is published.
What becomes public
Publishing makes exactly three things public, and nothing else:
- • The video — the film itself, with its narration.
- • Your caption, if you wrote one.
- • Your display name, and the spread and deck the reading used.
Your reading stays yours
Watching the feed
- Scroll
One video fills the screen at a time and snaps into place. Only the video you are looking at plays; the rest are paused.
- Tap the video
Turns sound on or off. Videos start muted because no browser will autoplay with sound; once you turn it on it stays on as you scroll.
- Newest / Most liked
The two orderings. Most liked breaks ties by recency, so it never shows the same handful forever.
- Star
Likes a reading. Tapping again removes it. One like per person, however many times you tap.
- Share
Shares the post's link through your browser's share sheet, or copies it where that is not supported. The link plays the video inline when posted anywhere that shows previews.
- Report
Sends the post to a moderator with your reason. Shown on other people's posts.
- Unpublish
Takes your own post out of the feed, from within the feed. Shown in place of Report on your own posts.
Taking a post down
You can unpublish at any time, either from the reading itself or from the post in the feed. The video is not deleted — it goes back to your journal and to the ordinary 30-day life every reading video has, counted from the moment you unpublish rather than from when you made it.
Published videos are kept, unpublished ones expire
A moderator can also take a post down after a report. That is not reversible by re-publishing the same video.
