Help & Support

How Tarot Sanctum works

Tarot Sanctum is a privacy-first tarot app for iPhone, with a companion website for creating and collecting AI-generated card decks. This page covers the questions we hear most. Can't find your answer? Email us.

Looking for the detail?

The full guide documents every screen in the app and on this website, control by control — including all 44 spreads and what everything costs.

Getting started

Download Tarot Sanctum from the App Store and open it — no account is required to begin. Your Today card is a single daily draw to sit with; tap it to reveal it, then tap again to see it full-screen. For a fuller reading, go to the Reading tab, choose a spread, optionally type a question, and reveal the cards one at a time.

An account is optional and only needed for things that live on our servers — buying or claiming decks, generating custom decks, and syncing your subscription. You can sign in with Apple from More.

Readings

Where do interpretations come from?

Free and Seeker readings are written entirely on your device using Apple's on-device model (on supported iPhones) or a rich built-in engine otherwise — no network, nothing leaves your phone. Oracle and Professional tiers use a more powerful online AI for deeper, more nuanced interpretations.

Spreads

From a single card up to the ten-card Celtic Cross and many themed layouts (love, career, the year ahead, shadow work, and more). Tap any card in a reading to see it full-screen with its position; swipe left/right to move between the cards.

Reading style

In More → Readings you can change the voice of the interpretation — from the classic warm Tarot Reader to more playful or blunt personalities, or write your own. Style changes the tone, never which cards you drew or what they mean.

Listen to a reading (spoken readings)

Turn on Spoken Readings in More → Audio & Accessibility and a Listen button appears on readings and the Today card. It reads the reading aloud using a voice on your iPhone. For a natural voice, download one of Apple's free Enhanced or Premium voices in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.

Other languages

Tarot Sanctum is available in 36 languages. Choose one in More → Language; the pack downloads once and then works offline. Readings in a supported language are written in that language.

How readings address you

In gendered languages you can choose how a reading grammatically addresses you (neutral, feminine, or masculine) under More → Readings. The tarot figures always keep their own traditional gender.

Decks & the marketplace

Your first decks are free

Every new member is given the Classic Tarot deck plus a free pick from the marketplace. Paid tiers include additional free picks. Open a deck and tap Claim free while you have picks remaining.

Create your own deck

In Deck Studio (in the app) or on this website, describe an art style and we generate a complete, coherent 78-card deck in that style. You can generate the full deck at once, or just the 22 Major Arcana first and add the Minor Arcana later.

Generation quality

Three quality levels — Graphic, Collector, and Masterpiece — trade speed for detail. Collector and Masterpiece decks are generated in a discounted batch and can take up to about 90 minutes.

Editing & regenerating cards

Open any card in a deck you own to regenerate it, refine it with a change request, or edit a region of the art. Every previous version stays browsable and restorable — nothing is deleted. If a card comes back empty, you can regenerate it for free until an image lands, and use Fill empty cards to batch-generate any that are missing.

Using a deck for readings

Select any owned deck to make it active; its art then appears on your cards throughout the app. Owned decks are stored on your device so they load instantly and work offline.

Printed decks

You can turn a deck — including your own custom art — into a physical, print-on-demand deck. Look for Order a printed deck in the app; printed decks are fulfilled and paid for on this website.

A note on AI art

Every card is generated by AI from your style description. Results depend on your input, and we can't guarantee any particular outcome or that images are free of mistakes — that's why regenerating and versioning are built in.

Tokens & subscriptions

What are tokens?

Tokens are the in-app currency, used to generate and refine deck art, card animations and reading videos. They are sold as one pack of 100 tokens for $0.99, bought in whatever quantity you like — the same pack at the same price in the app and on your account page here. Tokens are a one-time purchase and never expire.

Do readings cost tokens?

In the app, no — readings are part of your subscription and are never charged for.

On this website there is no subscription to be part of, so readings work differently. Choosing a spread, dealing it and turning the cards is free and works offline, and every reading comes with an interpretation written on your own device. Having it written properly costs 1 token, and so does each follow-up question. Your first reading is free, and if the reading cannot be written you are not charged.

In exchange, the website has no plans at all — all 44 spreads are open to everyone.

Subscription tiers

  • Free — one reading a day, private on-device interpretations, the essential spreads.
  • Seeker — unlimited on-device readings and more spreads.
  • Oracle — deeper online-AI readings, follow-up questions, and every spread unlocked.
  • Professional — the deepest readings with no shuffle wait.

Manage or change your subscription in the app under More → Subscription. Current prices are shown there and on the App Store.

Restoring purchases

Signed in with the same Apple ID, your subscription and tokens follow you. If a purchase doesn't appear, use Restore Purchases in the app, or reopen the app to let it re-sync.

Privacy & your data

  • • No cloud storage — your questions, drawn cards, and journal live only on your iPhone.
  • • No conversation history, unless you choose to save a reading to your Journal.
  • • Free and Seeker readings never touch the network.
  • • Online readings (Oracle & Professional) send only your cards and question to our AI service for that reading — nothing else.
  • • When you create deck art, the style prompt you write is sent to our servers and kept in the card's history so versions stay restorable.

Full details are in the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use.

Is tarot fortune-telling?

No. Tarot Sanctum offers tarot as a tool for reflection and self-exploration — a mirror for your own thoughts, not a prediction of the future, and never a substitute for medical, legal, or financial advice. Readings are for reflection and entertainment.

If a question touches something painful, the app will gently point to real support resources rather than draw cards. If you're in crisis, please reach out to a local helpline or emergency services.

Troubleshooting

A reading is slow or falls back to a simpler one

Online readings need a connection and your online-readings setting turned on (More → Readings). On a weak connection the app falls back to its on-device reading so you always get a result. Try again on Wi-Fi, or continue with the offline reading.

Card art is slow to appear

Owned decks are downloaded to your device on launch and then load instantly. The first time you view a brand-new deck, its art downloads once; after that it's available offline.

Card names or text still show in English after switching language

Language packs update over time. Open More → Language and tap Update if it's offered, or switch away and back to the language to refresh the pack.

“Sign in with Apple” failed

Make sure you're signed in to iCloud on your device and try again. If it still fails, restart the app; the issue is usually a temporary Apple authentication hiccup.

A generated deck is stuck or has empty cards

Collector and Masterpiece decks generate in a batch and can take up to about 90 minutes. Any cards that come back empty can be regenerated for free from the card view, or all at once with Fill empty cards.
