The iPhone app
Decks & Deck Studio
The Decks tab does three things: it holds the decks you own, it sells you more, and it lets you make your own. Whichever deck is active supplies the artwork everywhere else in the app.
Everything here that generates artwork costs tokens and needs you to be signed in. Choosing, using and browsing decks does not.
The Decks hub
- Generate new deck
Opens the create sheet. Signed out, it opens sign-in first.
- Deck Studio
Opens the studio, where every deck you have generated is listed with its own controls.
- Marketplace
Browses decks available to claim or buy.
- Your decks
One row per deck you own, with its cover, title and quality level. Opens the deck.
- Empty claim slot
A dashed placeholder for each free deck your plan still entitles you to. Tapping it goes to the marketplace.
Free decks by plan
| Plan | Free decks |
|---|---|
| Free | 1 |
| Seeker | 2 |
| Oracle | 3 |
| Professional | 5 |
The deck everyone starts with counts as one of these. Claiming uses a pick permanently, so it is worth looking through the whole marketplace before spending the last one.
Browsing decks
- Deck row
Cover, title, quality badge and price — “Owned”, “Free”, or a token amount.
- Free picks banner
Shown while you have unclaimed free decks, with how many remain.
- Active deck banner
Names the deck currently in use, with a Clear active button to go back to the default.
- Pull down to refresh
Re-fetches the marketplace and your own decks.
A deck
- Claim free
Takes the deck using one of your plan's free picks. Shown instead of the buy button while you have picks left.
CostFree - Buy for n tokens
Buys the deck outright. If your balance is short, an alert offers to take you straight to the token screen.
- Use / Using
Makes this deck active, so its art appears everywhere in the app. While the deck downloads, a progress line counts the cards.
- Arcana filter
All, Major or Minor. Decks generated as Majors-only open on Major.
- Card grid
All 78 slots plus the card back in the first cell. Tapping any card opens the pager at that card.
- Generate the 56 Minors
On a Majors-only deck you own, generates the rest of it.
Cost455 tokens / 770 tokens / 1,000 tokens by quality - Fill empty cards — Free
Generates every card the run failed to deliver, at no cost. Appears whenever the deck has empty slots.
CostFree - Select / Select all
Switches the empty cells into selection mode so you can choose which ones to fill. Selected cells get a gold ring.
- Share
Opens the share composer for posting cards from this deck. Disabled on a deck with no artwork yet.
Looking at a card
Tapping any card opens a full-screen pager over the whole deck, card back included. This is where the physical treatment of the cards is tuned.
- Swipe left or right
Moves between cards. The card tilts and flies off as you throw it; a short flick is enough. Wraps around at both ends.
- Share
Offers three export styles — full width, full height, or labelled with the card's name.
- Close
Returns to the deck grid.
- Crop
Trims the artwork inwards so a badly framed card sits better in the card shape. Saved to the deck for everyone who owns it.
Limits0–10%, in steps of 0.5 - Material tuning
A collapsed panel of sliders controlling how the card looks as a physical object: paper tooth, ink relief, ink gloss, paper sheen and print intensity, plus artwork intensity, gloss, relief and sparkle.
LimitsMost 0–2 in steps of 0.05 - Reset · Copy values · Save to deck
Reset returns the sliders to their defaults, Copy puts the numbers on the clipboard, and Save writes them to the deck for good.
The card back
The first page of the pager is the deck's back, which has its own set of controls — including a much deeper material panel, because a card back is mostly material.
- Back options strip
Horizontal thumbnails of every available back, “Default” first, with the current choice ringed in gold. Imported backs carry an × to remove them.
- Set as deck default
Makes the selected back this deck's back for everyone who owns it.
- Import a back
Brings a back across from another deck you own.
CostFree - Back scale
How much of the back design is inset from the card edge.
Limits0–10%, in steps of 0.5 - Back material tuning
Bump, metalness, roughness, ambient occlusion, relief, foil, sheen band, specular, sparkle and bloom — the physical treatment of the back.
Limits0–2 or 0–1.5 depending on the slider - Regenerate back
Generates a new card back at the chosen quality, re-deriving its materials too.
Cost34 tokens / 44 tokens / 54 tokens
Regenerating a back costs a flat 24 tokens plus the chosen quality's per-card price, because the material set behind it is re-derived at the same time.
Changing a card
The manage panel under a card is where regenerating, editing, animating and version history all live. Everything in it needs you to own the deck and be signed in.
- Version strip
Every version of this card. A single tap makes one active; a double tap arms deleting it, marked with a red ring. The active version can never be deleted.
CostFree - Quality
Which quality the next generation uses, with the live token cost against each.
Cost10 tokens / 20 tokens / 30 tokens - Change request
What you want different about this card. Leave it blank to simply re-roll.
LimitsOptional - Generate / Regenerate
The main action. Its label tells you the price, or says “free” when the card is empty and owed to you.
CostFree on an empty card, otherwise the chosen quality - Generate now at full cost
Skips the free-fill queue and generates immediately, paying for it. Only shown when the main button is free.
- Edit
Opens the lasso editor for removing or adding something in the artwork.
CostThe deck's per-card price - Animate
Offers five priced options for an 8-second loop of this card.
Cost64 tokens – 320 tokens - Copy from another deck
Brings this card's artwork across from another deck you own, as a new version.
CostFree
Animation options
| Quality | 720p | 1080p |
|---|---|---|
| standard | 64 tokens | 80 tokens |
| master | 128 tokens | 160 tokens |
| masterpiece | — | 320 tokens |
The lasso editor
When one part of a card is wrong, drawing round it is cheaper and more precise than regenerating the whole thing. You can erase what you circle, or replace it with something you describe.
- Draw a lasso
Drag on the artwork to draw a freehand loop around what you want changed. You can draw several.
- Remove / Add
Whether the lassoed area is erased, or replaced with something you describe.
- What to add
Only in Add mode: describe what should appear in the lassoed area. Return submits.
- Undo
Removes the last lasso.
- Clear all
Removes every lasso and starts again.
- Apply
Sends the edit. Needs at least one lasso, and in Add mode a description too. The result arrives as a new version.
CostThe deck's per-card price
Deck Studio
The studio is the list of decks you have generated, each with the controls appropriate to its state: draft, running, paused, stopped or complete.
- Credits
Your token balance at the top of the studio.
- Deck row
Each deck with a progress bar and a set of buttons that changes with its state.
- Start / Resume
Begins or continues a run. Start charges the run cost once.
Cost650 tokens / 1,100 tokens / 1,500 tokens for a full deck - Pause / Stop
Halts a running deck. Everything generated so far is kept.
- Rename
Opens an alert with a text field for a new title.
- Delete
Asks for confirmation, naming the deck, then removes it.
- Pull down to refresh
Re-fetches every deck's state. The studio also polls on its own while anything is running.
Creating a deck
- Title
The deck's name.
LimitsRequired - Style brief
The description of the art you want, with a live word counter that turns red past the limit.
LimitsAt least 10 characters, no more than 1,000 - Quality
Graphic, Collector, Masterpiece, each showing its per-image and per-deck price.
Cost650 tokens / 1,100 tokens / 1,500 tokens for a full deck - Scope
The whole deck, or just the 22 Major Arcana. Splitting costs exactly the same in total.
CostMajors only: 195 tokens / 330 tokens / 500 tokens - Generate all now
On, the run starts immediately. Off, the deck is created as a draft you start later from the studio.
- Create
Makes the deck. Your balance is checked first, so an underfunded tap cannot strand you with an empty deck.
- Name the deck and describe the style you want, in 2,000 characters or fewer.
- Choose a quality level. This is the main cost decision.
- Choose full deck or Majors only. Majors first is a good way to see the style on real cards before committing the rest — and it costs the same in total.
- Decide whether to start immediately or create a draft. A draft waits in the studio until you press Start.
Common problems
A card came back empty
You were not charged for it. Regenerate it free from the card panel, or use Fill empty cards to do all of them at once.
The deck is still generating after an hour
Collector runs take up to about 30 minutes and Masterpiece up to about 90. They run on our servers, so closing the app does not stop them.
“Not enough tokens”
The alert offers to take you straight to the token screen and returns you here afterwards.
I cannot delete a version
The active version cannot be deleted. Make another version active first, then double-tap the one you want gone.
